Advent at Saint Albans

For Christians, the season of Advent is a special time.  It is a time to reflect upon the great gift of salvation wrought by the incarnation of God’s own son, who came to be our saviour.
Advent is a time, when we prepare to celebrate the first coming of the Christ Child some two thousand years ago.  In the coming weeks, we will take time to reflect upon the fact that our God loves us so much that he sent his only son to be our redeemer.  It is a time to reflect upon the ways in which we are called to be his faithful followers.  It is a time to reflect upon the fact that we are truly heirs of the Father.
Advent is also a time when we prepare for another coming as well.  In Advent, we remember that Christ will some day come again to “judge both the quick and the dead.”
As we approach the season of Advent, therefore, it is a good time to consider the ways in which we can break free of old habits and spend some extra time with God.  Join us as we journey together toward a blessed Christmas.

Sunday Discussion Group:
Spiritual Growth in Advent

Advent is a time to prepare or “get ready”.  Doing so, means preparing our hearts and minds to hear again the Advent and Christmas story and understand what it means for each of us. In order to do that, we need to develop spiritual reflection as a discipline. In this four-week series, Dr. Susan Regisford will lead us in a workshop on spiritual development.
We meet on Sundays at 11.00 am.

Advent Bible Study:
The Infancy Narratives

Only two of the four Gospels, Matthew and Luke, contain an account of Jesus’ birth. This Bible Study will explore the ways in which Matthew and Luke chose to tell the story. Why did they organise it the way each did? What themes are important to each? Do the differences matter? Join us as study the infancy narratives together this Advent.
We’ll meet at the Rectory for a light supper and Bible Study. Please use the contact page to register and obtain further details.

Christmas 2021

Picture
The Christmas season is about more than shopping, gift-giving and pretty songs.  It is a time to reflect upon the great gift of salvation wrought by the incarnation of God’s own son, who came to be our saviour.

During the four weeks of Advent leading to the Christmas seasion, we have been preparing to celebrate the first coming of the Christ Child some two thousand years ago.  We reflect upon the fact that our God loves us so much that he sent his only son to be our redeemer. We reflect upon the ways in which we are called to be his faithful followers.   Finally, we reflect upon the fact that we are truly heirs of the Father.  We invite you to join with us as we journey together toward a blessed Christmas.
